Heritage and Tourism Month celebrations

Tourism is one of the important sectors in South Africa and has shown a growth of about 20%, it continues to grow and has become the second largest economic sector, next to manufacturing and mining.

It employs about 3 % of the workforce in South Africa and is responsible for the creation of one in eight work opportunities.

In his 2012 State of the Nation Address President Jacob Zuma said that South Africa has the triple challenge of unemployment, poverty and inequality. Tourism is one of the sectors that can address these challenges.

As part of celebrating Heritage and Tourism Month, Matatiele Local Municipality and tourism organisations in Matatiele will host various celebrations this month.

These events will give us an opportunity to reflect on whether the country, with an abundance of talent and natural resources, is in fact able to take care of its children and grow a new nation - a nation we will be proud of one day.

The municipality is responsible for local tourism in terms of powers and functions as outlined in the Constitution, Act No 108 of 1996.

Further, tourism is marked as one of the pillars of Matatiele development in general, as earmarked in the municipal vision “Where nature, agriculture and tourism are investments of choice”.

That is all from us for now. Until next time, stay safe and be blessed.

Thank You Sweet People from sweet Matat, a destination of choice and excellence.
