2017-03-03 06:00

GREETINGS to readers of this viewpoint.

Welcome once again to the Matatiele Local Municipality view point. It is our responsibility to ensure that our community is well informed of recent accomplishments in their respective areas.

The Matatiele Local Municipality believes in providing people with information that is accessible to them, which they can use to improve their lives, based on their needs. We encourage our people to participate in democratic processes.

For the first time, Pamlaville village will have electricity as the Matatiele Local Municipality continues to strive towards addressing service delivery backlogs. With electricity being one of its priorities, the municipality has started 2017 on a high note regarding the electrification of rural Matatiele.

Life is about to change for the better for people of Pamlaville in Ward 5. Pamlaville village is a village that has been without electricity for many years, which the municipality is working hard to change.
Today is a bright new day for close to 400 households in the village. The MLM today will introduce to the community the contractor appointed to electrify 393 households.

The work by A 1 Electrical will begin on 1 March and the expected completion date for the project is August . Speaking on behalf of the community of Pamlaville village, Bakani Zinyana said: “We appreciate the efforts of our municipality and promise to co-operate with the appointed contractor during its time with us.”

The project will see 12 local people being employed for the duration of the project.

“The electrification of houses by Matatiele Local Municipality is ongoing, but not at the desired pace, primarily due to financial and power capacity constraints. Areas for prioritised intervention include the upgrade existing sub-station feeding Matatiele.

“We continue to look into other creative ways and means for rural communities to access alternative free basic energy and are lobbying for funding to address backlogs for the provision of universal energy in rural areas,” said MLM Mayor, Cllr Momelezi Mbedla.

The municipality ask those who don’t have electricity to be patient.
