MM’s office furniture removed

2016-01-22 06:00

THE Greater Kokstad municipal manager had to sit on the floor as Mayor Nosisa Jojozi allegedly got people to remove chairs and desks from his office last Thursday.

The mayor allegedly confiscated the furniture amid allegations that Section 57 managers, including municipal manager Zamo Mkhize, failed to buy new furniture for the mayor’s office when they moved from the old offices to new offices this year.

Some said he was forced to sit on an empty beer crate.

Fever understands the problem started when the mayor questioned municipal managers about why they failed to buy new furniture for the move.

According to reliable sources office furniture was supposed to be bought for the mayor, municipal speaker Zolani Mhlongo and deputy mayor Bheki Mtolo offices, but the municipality failed to do so.

In an Exco meeting on Wednesday it is alleged that the mayor was furious when she questioned the managers about the situation.

The report said the mayor told managers she will instruct municipal estate department workers to remove all the furniture belonging to managers until new furniture is bought.

One of the employees, who did not want to be named, confirmed the incident, saying they failed to remove the furniture on Thursday because it needed to be disassembled first.
“It is not easy to remove the furniture,” said the employee.

A Section 57 manager, who also refused to reveal his name to Fever, confirmed the incident.

“I don’t understand why our mayor is so arrogant about new furniture because we were in the final stages of ensuring that the speaker, mayor and deputy mayor’s office gets new furniture. Why does the mayor run the municipality like her spaza shop,” said one manager.

When Fever contacted Jojozi about the allegations, she responded by asking Fever to go and check whether the managers had furniture in their offices.

She denied she forcefully had people remove Section 57 managers’ office furniture.

She said her office got furniture long ago and she does not know anything about the removal of the furniture.

Mkhize also denied the allegations, saying all managers have furniture in their offices.
