UMZIMKHULU Local Municipality awarded employees for exceptional performance at a ceremony last Friday.

A driver, Claude Harvey, walked away with two certificates - Driver of the Year and Employee of the Year - and R10 000.

He was employed in 2015 as small-vehicle driver and thanked workers who nominated him.

Municipal manager Zweliphansi Skhosana thanked employees for their performance and said the good performance of workers puts the municipality in a good light.

He said the municipality received clean audit outcomes for two terms and was awarded the BestIDPMunicipalityfor three terms in KZN.

“The municipality is doing well because of our hard- working staff. We have now been nominated as the Best Municipality in KZN in the KZN Premier’s Service Awards next month and believe we will win.”

Other employees who received certificates were Nonhlahla Sosibo for Best General Assistance Employee, Siphelele Mokoena for Best Law Enforcement Employee and Veliswa Mchunu for Best Office-Based Employee.

Deputy mayor Sindisiwe Nkala said employees make the municipality better by working with councillors, management and community.
