MUSICIAN Anele Kondile donated school uniforms to 10 Nomzamo Primary pupils at his “back-to-school” campaign at the school last Thursday and promising to reach out to other schools in Kokstad.

Kondile’s campaign was supported by businesswoman, Siphokazi Thiam from La Teranga B&B, who also donated and encouraged pupils to take tourism as one of their subjects.

Pupils from poor families were given new shoes, socks, jerseys, shirts and trousers, watched by their parents. Most pupils come from very poor families and often go to school without food.
Teacher, Zanele Mahlanza said many of the pupils depend on the school nutrition programme to survive.

Mahlanza looks after orphans and vulnerable pupils to ensure they are able to cope.

An unemployed parent of five, Ntombikayise Makhatshu thanked Kondile for donating uniforms.

“It is heartbreaking to see pupils without shoes in winter, which is why the campaign will be rolled out to other schools in Kokstad,” said Kondile.

He said he is planning to introduce a school programme that will educate pupils about poetry, singing and acting, which will be supported by Department of Arts and Culture and the Department of Education.
