NDZ Viewpoint

2017-03-10 06:02

GREETINGS to all the residents of the Dr Nkosazana Dlamini Zuma Municipality and Harry Gwala. As we have come to the end of the month of February, which is the month of love and care for one another, we hope that you have shown love to everybody around you.

One must mention the importance of stakeholder relationships in our community and this was reflected by the local business people of NDZ when they took the initiative to donate school uniforms to three schools, particularly to children who come from disadvantaged backgrounds around the Nkumba area. We are honoured to have positive business people around us and we believe that it takes a village to raise a child, Siyabonga Kakhulu bafowethu …

On February 26, the Khuphuka NGO in partnership with the NDZ Municipality and the Department of Sport and Recreation, held a fun walk and aerobics day. The aim was to promote a healthy lifestyle among the residents of ward 1.

As the municipality we support such initiatives and applaud our stakeholders for playing such a significant role in the development of our society in all aspects.

As the Dr Nkosazana Dlamini Zuma Municipality, we believe that young people are the future and they will become our leaders who will continue to build and maintain the socioeconomic fabric of communities and our nation.

We, the older generation, have a responsibility to inform and protect them from diseases and health risks, particularly risky behaviours leading to ill-health such as alcohol abuse, unsafe sex and an early sexual debut, tobacco use, violence, bad eating habits and a lack of exercise. All these have been shown to affect negatively the health and development of young people, leaving them at a disadvantage for the future.

I would like to take this opportunity to encourage our people to participate in the annual Harry Gwala Marathon that takes place on Sunday, March 5. We promote healthy living and we encourage people from the NDZ Municipal area to participate and win all the races on the day as we have a history of champions that have come out of this municipality and we have no doubt that the winner of the 42,2 km race will be from the Dr Nkosazana Dlamini Zuma Municipal area.

Until we meet again, stay blessed.
