NDZ viewpoint

GREETINGS to all Dr Nkosazana Dlamini-Zuma Municipality residents.

It is a blessing that we get to meet again this week granted to us by the Almighty above.

September is Heritage Month, a season of embracing our cultures, celebrating our uniqueness and diversity, a month where the concept of a rainbow nation comes alive.

At Dr Nkosazana Dlamini-Zuma this diversity is witnessed throughout the jurisdiction of this municipality, hence we are an example of a rainbow society, a true reflection of a new South Africa.

On the weekend of September 15, 16 and 17 the municipality held the fourth Duzi 2 Sani 4x4 and Inter-cultural Food Tasting Expo.

The objective of this annual event, which started four years ago, seeks to discover talent as well as introduce tourism to previously disadvantaged people as well as contribute to local economic development.

The event un-taps the skills and potential of the people of this area. The municipality harnesses the vision of its people, develops an individual holistically, not only focusing on a single aspect of development, but as NDZ Municipality we believe that a tertiary economic sector can create a sustainable living for an individual.

It is where art and culture comes in, so people must use their capabilities to make a living. We say that life always provides you with opportunities - you can be whatever you want to be.

The handover of the completed projects was done by the mayor, Cllr Mncwabe, this month, and we pride ourselves on delivering the promises we made to our people.

As the NDZ Municipality we will continue to improve our infrastructure around our communities and ask the community to look after halls, roads, crèches and bridges that have been built for them, they belong to the community now.

Our objective is to reach every corner of Dr Nkosazana Dlamini-Zuma therefore we are asking for your participation in community development, understanding that any project in your ward belongs to you and you are therefore required to safeguard them all the time.

As the municipality we are doing our level best to bring change to the lives of the people of Dr Nkosazana Dlamini-Zuma.

The pace we are moving at may be slow, but it is steady with noticeable progress and we believe the trees that are slow to grow bear the best fruit.

As we celebrate our heritage let us take time to reflect on our history. I want to remind NDZ residents that for one to know where they are going they must know where they come from and this dovetails perfectly with the vision and mission of this institution.

We have travelled a milestone as Dr Nkosazana Dlamini-Zuma Municipality.
