New centre gives people hope

2016-03-11 06:00

IN 2005, Respond! Housing Association Ireland was invited to South Africa by the Diocese of Kokstad to assist them in developing support and services for those in need in its area.

The result of this is the opening of the new Ithembalabantu Centre of Hope by Sivile Housing Association, which will serve the Kokstad and surrounding area communities.

Respond! Housing Association works in partnership with Yondlabantu, Amawele, Friends in Ireland, the Diocese of Kokstad, the Greater Kokstad Municipality, TLC Hospice and other local groups in honour of Irish Franciscans,

Archbishop Bishop William Slattery and Father Patrick Cogan.

Sivile has dedicated many resources to get the Sivile Skills and Training Centre up and running.

Apart from having Media, Information and Communication Technologies Sector Education and Training Authority (Mict) Seta accreditation, Sivile also has accredited construction courses.

The first six bricklayers have just completed their course and five are continuing to up-skill themselves and are doing a tiling course.
