IT was a feast of food, drinks and speeches at the Riverview sports ground in Kokstad when the Kokstad branch of Uncedo Service Taxi Association was launched on Tuesday.

Uncedo Service Taxi Association, which has its headquarters in Port Elizabeth, was launched to replace the Kokstad Taxi Association.

In attendance were community members, government department representatives and various organisations, who feasted on five cows and 28 sheep.

Uncedo Service Taxi Association member in the Kokstad branch Lucas Mtumi said the Kokstad Taxi Association has a long history of interaction with Uncedo.
“This launch is a culmination of many years of working with Uncedo. Kokstad taxis were allowed to go into areas where Uncedo operates without conflict. We have had a good relationship for a long time and are happy that we have finally joined Uncedo,” he said.

Uncedo Service Taxi Association president Ntsikelelo Gaehler addressing the gathering said what has sustained them for the 32 years they have been operation is putting God first in everything they do.

“The most important thing is to treat passengers well because without them there is no business. Drivers have to drive cautiously, they have to be clean and presentable. The taxis they drive need to be clean at all times and passengers will look forward to getting into their taxis if they maintain those things,” he said.

RTI official Mr L. Zenani said they were happy to be part of the launch of Uncedo in Kokstad.
