Open letter to Greater Kokstad municipal manager

2017-03-31 06:02

THE municipal notice in your publication last week regarding outstanding rates refers.

It was in 2012 that a municipal vehicle drove around our agricultural properties handing out flyers to say that a valuator would be calling on us in the near future to value our properties.
This valuator never arrived even though there were always persons on my property to welcome them. It then came as a surprise that the local municipality required the payment of rates.
I immediately paid for and objected by registered mail on 12 October 2012 to the municipality. It was also sent by registered mail as proof that it was mailed before the cut-off date.
Mr Shandu at the post office also confirmed that the municipality had collected the mail. The municipality never even had the decency to acknowledge receipt of my objection, let alone attend to it.

Since that date, and at the change of many municipal managers, I have again, a number of times sent correspondence to the municipal managers stating that I would like to sort out my rates account after a valuator visits me as I am sure the municipality has mistaken farm buildings with residential dwellings. Again I never received any replies, not only replies to my rate queries, but also to other legal township planning correspondence I have addressed to the municipal managers as well. I wonder how many others on the list have experienced similar “don’t-give-a-damn” attitude displayed by our municipality.
