THE Kokstad Tender Loving Care (TLC) Hospice, founded in 2006, is encouraging people to support those living with breast cancer this month, Breast Cancer Month, and asks them to wrap trees in pink in support of this worthy cause.
The initiative is called the “Pink Tree Project”.

“The aim of wrapping trees in pink is to raise funds and make people aware of cancer and the signs in order to help improve the lives of people living with cancer and their families,” said Juanita Sampson for TLC.

TLC runs a support group for those living with the disease.

Early detection is key to enabling effective treatment and a better chance of recovering from cancer.

Symptoms of breast cancer include a puckering of the skin on the breast, a lump in the armpit, a change in the skin around nipple, discharge, unusual increase in the size of one breast, enlargement of the glands and unusual swelling in the armpit.

To support the Pink Tree Project and for more information, contact TLC on 039 727 4078.

Male breast cancer is rare, accounting for one percent of all breast cancers. It is 100 times more common in women than in men.
