A40-YEAR-OLD Ixopo Magistrate’s Court Public Prosecutor was arrested and charged with corruption on Monday.

Hawks members of the Serious Corruption Investigations Unit received information that the prosecutor had demanded money from a complainant asking that the PP not charge him with stock theft.

“An undercover operation was conducted and he was caught red handed while accepting money.

He was immediately arrested on the court premises,” said Captain Simphiwe Mhlongo from the Hawks.

The PP appeared in Durban Specialised Commercial Court on Tuesday and was granted R1 000 bail. The case was adjourned to 20 January, 2017.

In another incident Durban Commercial Crime members arrested a 33-year-old senior Home Affairs official for fraud. The official was suspected of helping a foreign national obtain a fraudulent South African passport.

He was arrested with his partner in crime, who both appeared in the Durban Specialised Commercial Crime Court on Wednesday.

They were granted R1 500 bail each. The case was postponed to 20 January, 2017.
