GRADE 4 pupils from Kransdraai Primary School in Swartburg donated toys to children in the EG and Usher Memorial Hospital last Thursday.

Pupils raised money through their parents to buy toys and chips.

At the hospital pupils were welcomed by Cheryl Marais, paediatric ward operational manager, who told Fever she loves children.

The 17 pupils were taken to the children’s wards and were allowed to play with them.

Teacher Rose Kortjas told Fever that the idea of visiting children in hospital came from the pupils themselves.

“Pupils wanted to put a smile on the children’s faces, and as a teacher I supported the idea, which is why we are here today.

“My heart is touched when I see these children sleeping in hospital beds because some of them are in great pain because of the recklessness of their parents.

“These children smiled at us, which brought tears to my eyes.”

School principal Soobremoney Naidoo said the initiative of pupils must be something that everyone should strive to do.

Naidoo has won several awards in the National Teacher Awards.
