THE achievements of Ukhozi FM presenter, Mandla Mdletshe, were celebrated by listeners, fans and the Umzimkhulu Jazz Club members at a celebratory session at Umzimkhulu last Saturday.

The venue was supposed to be at the Umzimkhulu Butchery, but was changed to 1944 Restaurant because of high crime rate in the area, especially at night.
The event was attended by jazz artists, jazz club members from Port Shepstone and Pietermaritzburg including chairperson of Mzansi Jazz Association, Dingaan Khumalo.
The death of an ANC member, Florence Nene from Umzimkhulu affected the event somewhat as organisers were told to lower the music volume.

Event organiser Dumile Mkhize said the event went well. “The purpose of the event was to celebrate with Mdletshe after his listenership rose to 2,1 million. He has also played a positive role in promoting jazz music and artists,” said Mkhize.

Mdletshe hosts a jazz programme between 6 pm and 8 pm on Sundays.

Some of artists who performed at the event included Mafu-K, DJ Fistoz, Do Bee Do, Gcobani, DJ Dings, local comedian, Zacharia Mbhishop Shezi and DJ Sbu.
