THABANG Hlalele (30), was sentenced to 12 years and life for raping a 14-year-old female at Thokoana village in Mount Fletcher in April 2014.

Police spokesperson Lieutenant Raphael Motloung said: “The victim was sleeping with her two young sisters. The man broke open the door and entered the house, then pulled the victim outside and raped her next to the kraal.”

Hlalele was sentenced on 23 February at Mount Fletcher Magistrate’s Court. The court also sentenced Dumisa Ndaba (35) to 14 years for the rape of a 52-year-old woman who was sleeping alone at Mpharane Village in April 2014 and eight years for house breaking.

Zamani Mtshawu (29), who was found guilty of robbery and rape, was sentenced into 15 years’ imprisonment for robbery and life sentence for rape.

A 19-year-old female was on her way from church when Mtshawu dragged her into the bush and raped her at Kotoanong village in March 2014.

On 3 March the court sentenced Motsilili Rethabile (21) to five years’ imprisonment for house breaking.

A 61-year-old woman from Pontsheng village in Mount Fletcher was alone when Rethabile broke into her house in September 2015 and tried to rape her, but he was disturbed.

Lieutenant Motloung said he appreciates the work done by the Female Violence, Child Protection and Sexual Offences Unit and encouraged women not to live alone in rural areas because criminals will take advantage.
