OCTOBER is Transport Month and the government is promoting it’s “Arrive Alive” campaign.
Recently members of South
African National Taxi Council
(Santaco) supported a road safety campaign at Hlokomela at Umzimkhulu.
At the event taxi drivers committed to fight road fatalities over the upcoming December holidays.

KZN MEC for Human Settlements Ravi Pillay, who was part of the campaign, encouraged drivers to respect each other on the road and obey the rules of the roads.

“Government discourages drinking and driving and drinking and walking.”

Pillay also visited a taxi rank at Umzimkhulu to promote the road safety campaign to taxi drivers and passengers.

Umzimkhulu Mayor Mphuthumi Mpabanga said the municipality
will fight road fatalities in the
area.

A campaign to vote for the best taxi driver of the year was also promoted by Santaco members.
