Robbers target Kokstad businesses

2016-01-08 06:00

BETWEEN last Saturday to this Monday, there were two robberies in the Kokstad CBD.

In the latest incident, Devland Supermarket was robbed on Monday at 6am, when it opened.

Three unknown men pointed firearms at the security guard who was patrolling on the premises. The security guard was hit badly by the armed men who told him to lie on the ground and handcuffed him with his handcuffs. They then tied both his legs with cable ties and covered his face with his jacket.

Police spokesperson Lieutenant Dumisani Ncongo confirmed the incident.
Ncongo said they then entered the supermarket and fled with two small safes.

A case of business robbery has been opened at Kokstad police station, and nobody has been arrested.

In a similar incident at Checkout Supermarket last Saturday, armed men forcefully entered the store, pointing firearms and demanding cash.
“They managed to get away with R500,” said Ncongo.

A case of business armed robbery has been opened, and no arrests have been made.

Ncongo said police are working hard in the investigation of both cases and have formed a police task team to crack down on business robbery in Kokstad.

He warned business owners, managers and staff to be alert when opening in the morning and closing in the afternoon.

“If anyone has any information that could help the investigation, please contact the police on 039 797 1123 immediately,” said Ncongo. - Supplied.
