Ruling party accused of nepotism

2016-10-14 06:00

COMMUNITY members of 10 Kokstad wards are accusing Kokstad ANC leaders of recruiting their own members for a Sanral project that is under way on the N2 between Kokstad and Harding.

Unhappy representatives from Kokstad Concerned Residents Association held a meeting with acting GKM manager Andile Velem to voice their dissatisfaction about nepotism in their wards.

The meeting was protected by SAPS members in and outside municipality boardroom.

At the meeting Velem told the representatives to raise their concerns with Mayor Bheki Mtolo, who was not at the meeting.
Velem agreed that Sanral approached him about job opportunities for 60 people, but said he never recruited ANC members for the project.

Kokstad Concerned Residents Association spokesperson Mawethu Nocanda said the recruitment process was not fair because the community who supported opposition parties during elections were sidelined for the project.

Nocanda said people are threatening to disrupt municipal IDPs if this matter is not resolved.

Kokstad ANC sub-region chairperson Phumzile Nocanda denied the claims.

“People must stop making false claims about the ruling party.”

A meeting between the GKM mayor and the community is scheduled for next Tuesday.
