SAPS hunt for granny’s killer

2016-03-04 06:00

ON Friday the police in Avondale police station near Matatiele were called to a gruesome scene in Mpharane village where a 78- year-old woman was found in a pool of blood in her house.

SAPS spokesperson Lieutenant Raphael Motloung said according to a 15-year-old girl, who was in the house with the woman, a man entered the house through the back window while they were sleeping.

After realising there was an intruder in the room, the old lady switched on the light but was stabbed by the intruder.

“He stabbed her on the arm and neck.

“During the commotion the girl managed to escape and rant to the neighbour’s house who then called the police,” said Motloung.

On arrival at the scene, the police discovered the woman had already died.

She was taken to a government mortuary where a postmortem revealed she had also been raped.

“A murder and rape case has been opened and the police are looking for the suspect who we hope will arrested soon,” said Motloung.
