THEFT out of motor vehicles and house burglaries are on the rise in Kokstad and people are advised to be watchful.
The Fever spoke to SAPS who said that from July burglaries have increased in Kokstad.

SAPS Captain Dumisani Ncongo said homeowners must keep their alarm system activated when not at home. He said exterior lights must also be kept on at night.

“People must lock all doors, shut the windows and lock their gates when they leave the house. Domestic workers and garden workers must be screened by homeowners,” said Ncongo.

Ncongo also warned people to lock their vehicle and check that it is locked when parking to go shopping, especially at malls.
“Criminals use devices to get into vehicles to steal items or steal the vehicle.
“ People must not park in dark or deserted areas.”

He said laptops, firearms, cellphones, handbags and wallets should not be left in their car in plan sight, rather they must be locked in the boot or left at home.
