Scheme investors lose thousands

2017-07-07 06:00

AN alleged “investment” scheme - Growth Point Solution - in Matatiele has disappeared with a lot of investors’ money and they have opened a case to try to trace the whereabouts of the owners.

On Tuesday, scores of people flocked to offices of the suspected pyramid scheme where they were expecting to get their invested money, with interest, however, the scheme owners didn’t arrive.

Some people even went to Kokstad to look for the owners, but unsuccessfully and their phones were not answered.
A man who invested R1 100 told Fever after investing the money he was told he would get R2 000 back after 15 days.

“After I signed an agreement form I invested my money and was told to return with my receipt after 15 days. The owners of the scheme disappeared without giving us notice,” said the man.

Some people from Umzimkhulu, Kokstad and Matatiele had invested up to R20 000.

Another investment scheme disappeared with people’s money in Kokstad earlier this year. Last year, an investment scheme also disappeared without paying people in Matatiele.
SAPS spokesperson, Raphael Motloung warned people not to invest money in schemes.

On Monday, the investors are to have a meeting in Matatiele to seek a way forward. Fever tried to contact the investment scheme but their phones were on voicemail.
