HARRY Gwala Taxi Association donated uniforms to more than 400 pupils in Kokstad recently.

Last year the association donated uniforms to 500 pupils at Jolvert outside Ixopo.

Regional chairperson of the association, Zibele Kheswa, said the annual event is supported by eight taxi associations in Harry Gwala District.

“We love education and want pupils to wear good uniforms when they go to school. Next year the association is going to donate uniform to pupils of Umzimkhulu schools.”

The handover was attended by the KZN MEC for Human Settlements and Public Works Ravi Pillay and Harry Gwala District Mayor, Mluleki Ndobe.

Pillay thanked the association for donating the uniforms.

“The taxi industry is known for violence, but what I see today is a good.”

The association also renovated an RDP house for a poor family of 11 in Shayamoya, whose only income is a child grant.

Local chairperson of the association, Gabriel Mdlophane, said bed and groceries were also donated by members.

Ndobe gave R500 to the family to buy food and promised to give them a wardrobe.
