Building a team to conquer 2016

ALL 27 members of TLC Hospice management and staff set out on a journey of discovery and enlightenment on Friday, 13 November.

Our much-awaited planned team-building weekend had arrived. The theme of the weekend was “Step by Step” and this was echoed in every activity staff took part in. At the office on Friday staff created treasure boxes in which they will keep the treasures they value and the treasures they aspire to.

From there we climbed into our vehicles and travelled to the Carousel Resort in Hibberdene. Some of the staff had not stayed in hotel-like accommodation before and so the self-catering units were met with much excitement and frivolity.

We took a short trip to the beach to take in the beautiful scenery that we are so privileged to have on our doorstep. Our spirits were not hampered by the rain that almost drowned out our team braai. We just reminded ourselves how desperate our drought situation is at home and were grateful that rain was falling where it is needed.

On Saturday morning we arose at sparrows and headed again to the beach. Thando Mtshali spoke to our hearts about the gifts we should be grateful for. These are gifts that we receive from God and they should be nurtured and cherished.

All the staff enjoyed some quiet reflection time as the sun tried to peak through the inclement clouds. More rain started falling as we packed the vehicles after a delicious breakfast. We headed further down the coast to Shelly Beach for some fun beach activities. Staff laughed until their stomachs ached as they were challenged to perform obstacle courses and build a tent, blindfolded. All these activities created a close-knit team.

We then had a lovely lunch in Margate before taking the long trip home, and participants were happy, but exhausted.

Thank you to our board who agreed to this amazing opportunity for our staff. Thank you to Greendale Trust from Switzerland which provided the funds for this activity from a proposal that we requested.

Thank you especially to all the TLC staff members who participated so willingly and enthusiastically. We have concreted our formidable team and look forward to 2016. - Supplied.

How much food do you need to concentrate?

We have been taught that we need three meals a day in order to make it through the day and while most of us indulge in more than our fair share there is a large portion of South Africans who are living off barely enough to sustain them.
