Umzimkhulu Local Municipality viewpoint

2016-03-11 06:00

WARM greetings to the loving people of Umzimkhulu.

Umzimkhulu stakeholders recently met with the MEC of Education, Peggy Nkonyeni regarding the configuration of schools in Harry Gwala District.
It was an honour for the MEC to accede to the invitation and we welcome the humility she displayed. It is a known fact that rural schools were not given attention under the apartheid regime, so thanks to the new dispensation under the stewardship of the ruling party for stirring this transformation to improve the lives of the poor.

The MEC and stakeholders agreed to resolve matters that might hinder development of our schools. This was resolved through the establishment of a task team, which will represent stakeholders to find a solution.
Stakeholders were concerned about the demarcation of schools to other circuits and feel that Umzimkhulu schools should remain as they are, but create circuits within Umzimkhulu.

Last week voter registration took place and voters responded positively, however, there was a communication breakdown, which led to long queues because they did not know they were supposed to reregister.
We encourage voters who didn’t register last weekend to watch out for the next weekend of voter registration on 9 and 10 March. Consequently, IEC offices are open for those who wish to register before the 9 and 10 March.

Thank you.
