Umzimkhulu Local Municipality viewpoint

2017-01-27 06:01

GREETINGS to all.

Matric results

I would like to congratulate the pupils of Umzimkhulu, the majority of whom are already in tertiary institutions, for their good 2016 matric results.

Umzimkhulu circuit of education continued to dominate in Harry Gwala District in the results.

I would like to commend employees of this department for working tirelessly to ensure that the results are of a high quality. We understand they could have achieved less than anticipated, so we pride ourselves on the role played by parents in our schools.

Back-to-school campaigns

We would like to remind parents and pupils that the race is not yet over, so those who did well should get ready for the new phase of their lives.

As a municipality, this year we received a large number of registration fee requests. This means that we have to intensify our approach of bringing partners on board, who will also assist these pupils. We also have a responsibility to create an enabling platform for pupils to apply for NFAS well in advance.

We have a responsibility to dignify career exhibitions for these pupils.

Operation Sukuma Sakhe on back-to-school campaign

Among other initiatives as a municipality, we have embarked on the tour throughout Umzimkhulu whereby we look on how we can assist schools that need support, so we handed over five R500 vouchers to each school for profiled pupils. We also embarked on a programme by Department of Social Department where they hand over uniforms to the profiled pupils.

Until we meet again.
