UMZIMKHULU Local Municipality manager, Zweliphansi Skhosana, is one of the managers who has been nominated in the KZN Premier’s Service Awards, in the Best Municipal Manager category.

Skhosana, the father of four, was municipal manager in 2012 and said when he took over the position the town was not in good condition, however, it has since developed into something better.

“The streets have no potholes and the town is cleaner than before I joined the municipality and we are doing well with service delivery,” said Skhosana.

The municipality received clean audit outcomes for two terms and was awarded as the Best IDP Municipality in KZN for three terms under Skhosana’s leadership.
The opening of a shopping centre in Umzimkhulu also makes Skhosana proud.
“The face of the town is changing daily and I want it to look good and attract investors to grow our economy.”

Skhosana said he is providing leadership skills for colleagues and is active in monitoring projects. “To be nominated for this award shows I am a hard worker.”

Skhosana said he approaches issues in a positive manner. “As a manager, I don’t personalise issues and like learning from other people. I don’t work as individual - I believe in team work.”

When he is not at work he likes jogging and last year ran in a 10km race. This year he ran in the 21 km Harry Gwala Marathon.
The Umzimkhulu Municipality is also nominated in the KZN Best Municipality category together with Ugu, Ulundi and Zululand municipalities.
