A 79-YEAR-OLD farmer is fighting for his life after he was attacked at home on his farm outside Underberg last weekend.
According to police, farm employees left the farm on Friday 3 February, but on their return on Monday 6 February they noticed that the house door was open.
“Employees called neighbours, who are also farmers, to see what was going on at the house.
They found the farmer tied up with an electric cord and took him to hospital,” said SAPS spokeswoman Captain Thembeka Mbhele.

She said a Ford Ranger belonging to the farmer was stolen and an undisclosed amount of money.
Last week a farmer from West Ilsley 10km outside of Underberg was shot and killed by unknown suspects.

Mayor Ngeneleni Mncwabe of Dr Nkosazana Dlamini Zuma Municipality, which includes Bulwer, Creighton and Underberg, condemned the attacks and called for speedy investigations.

“The economic growth of Underberg depends on farming and I want people to expose the perpetrators who attack farmers.

“The municipality works well with farmers and these incidents are creating a bad image of the area.”

The Underberg Farmers’ Association Chairman, Kelvin Craig has condemned the recent farm attack.
“We consider that all farm attacks are a threat to food security and ask relevant authorities to act swiftly and decisively to bring these shocking acts to an end.”
The SAPS have asked anyone with information to come forward and report anything they think will help.
