A MATATIELE woman was lucky to get her money back after six suspects robbed her, while pretending to pray for protection against evil spirits.
A 38-year-old woman withdrew R1 500 from a Matatiele ATM. Then five males and one female, aged between 27 and 41, approached her saying they would pray for protection against evil spirits for her.

The woman closed her eyes, and without her seeing, they allegedly removed the money from her hand and replaced it with newspaper.
According to information received by the SAPS the suspects drove towards Kokstad.
SAPS spokesperson Lieutenant Raphael Motloung said police followed the car and managed to arrest six suspects seven kilometres from Kokstad.

“Police discovered money, bank cards, scanning device, remote controls used to block cars, cellphones and identity documents in the vehicle.
“The items will be used as evidence during trial proceedings.”

The SAPS found the dazed woman in town and returned the money to her.
The suspects also have similar cases against them in Kokstad according to SAPS spokesperson Dumisani Ncongo.
