FEMALE officers in blue celebrated Women’s Day last Thursday. The day was also marked internationally to honour the role of women in all spheres, including the SAPS.

In Kokstad women's networks marked the day by sharing positive thoughts and challenges faced by women in the police sector.

Station commander Colonel Virginia Xhelithole said: "The purpose of this day is to bring hope and opportunity to women as we celebrate social, economic, cultural and political achievements of women.

"Progress has been made to protect and promote women's rights, and throughout the world women have the same rights and opportunities as men."

At the event women wore white as a sign of creating unity and peace.

"A woman is like a tea bag because women are strong enough to face difficult challenges."
