THE Department of Health and EG and Usher Memorial Hospital hosted a youth dialogue at the Bhongweni Youth Centre last Friday in which young people were advised to practice safe sex.

According to recent statistics Kokstad has a high number of people living with HIV/Aids.

At the dialogue the Department of Health, Correctional Services, SAPS, and NGOs told young people to behave responsibly.

Statistics show that in Bhongweni 34.3% of people live with HIV/Aids, 29.6% in Shayamoya and 25.5% in Kokstad.

Andile Pani, EG and UsherMemorial Hospital communication officer said the event was organised to bring young people together to talk about things that can be done to prevent the spread of the disease.

He said women between the ages of 15 and 35 are those who are most affected by the disease.

“Young men are also affected, but the numbers are not high. Teenage pregnancy is also high in Kokstad, and it is concerning,” said Pani.
