ANCYL denies pushing for third term for Zuma

ANC Youth League treasurer Reggie Nkabinde has denied that the party is pushing for a third term for President Jacob Zuma, saying the question of leadership has not been discussed.

“I don’t understand what ‘three fingers’ means, I only understand what four fingers means, because it means 40% of youth representation in all spheres of government and that has been our resolution as the youth league,” he said on the sidelines of the ANC National General Council in Midrand, Johannesburg. The leadership issue, we have not discussed it, we have taken the posture only that we going to discourage it [talk of leadership] at all levels of the ANC.”

During the ANCYL congress last month some delegates held up three fingers which was said to signify a third term as party president for Zuma.

On Saturday Zuma told the Mail andamp; Guardian he would never stand for a third term even if he was begged to. Nkabinde said he could not understand the fascination with “succession”.

He added that the “ANC don’t have succession, we have elections”. — News24
