DIFFICULT life experiences brought out the musical talent of 23-year-old Masimdumise Nxesi, although his stage name is “Attitude”.

He comes from KwaPata, but is originally from Matatiele.

He has been nominated for the Johannesburg Extraordinary Music (JEM) Awards for “underground” artists, which will take place in Johannesburg, the date of which is still to be confirmed.

Nxesi said he has come up with a different genre of Randamp;B, mixed with hip-hop. Although he wanted to be a soccer player, difficulties in his life directed him to music.

Apart from mixing tapes, he is honoured that UMgungundlovu FM and KZN Capital 104 FM are promoting his music.

“I have lost count of how many songs I have written. I started with only five lines and after that I was unstoppable.

“The year 2008 opened my eyes. I went through a lot of life challenges and that is when I got a chance to ink what I was going through. The first track I wrote was Going to the Top. Instead of mourning and beating myself up I wrote a song, which I followed with another song, then another.

“Life taught me something I will forever be grateful for - when we are overwhelmed by challenges we always look at things on the negative side. We cry, complain and give up, that is being human and there is nothing wrong about it. With me it turned bitter sweet.

“I wrote my first song and I have been given an opportunity to perform in different cities,” said Nxesi.

He is busy with his mix tape and wants to make a big mark on the music industry.

“I have come up with something different. I like people to love and sing along to my songs. I want my songs to be available everywhere.”

Nxesi’s favourite artist is Casper Nyovest. He has also worked with local jazz aritst Nkanyezi Cele
