Duzi2Sani expedition fever

2015-08-27 06:00

THE Duzi2Sani 4x4 Expedition Tour is not just a normal tour, it’s a flagship event that aims to explore, develop and grow, in particular, niche tourism areas, said Msunduzi Pietermaritzburg Tourism Association director, Dumisani Mhlongo at the expedition launch at Land Rover Armitage Road last Wednesday.

Addressing the media and guests, Mhlongo said the project is an initiative of Msunduzi Pietermaritzburg Tourism Association, African Link Tours and Kwa Sani Municipality.

“The objective is to showcase what Msunduzi Pietermaritzburg and Kwa Sani [Underberg] can offer in terms of tourism products. It is not only a district-to-district [uMgungundlovu – Harry Gwala District municipalities], it is also a transnational activity between South Africa and Lesotho.

“We want, through this project, to create new tourism opportunities, linkages and partnership between various tourism industry role players and indirect trade partners to strengthen our position in tourism and economic development.

“We therefore resolve to grow the Msunduzi and Kwa Sani municipalities into popular tourist destinations.”

Guests at the event included Msunduzi Municipality speaker Babu Baijoo, Land Rover Dealer Principal, Peter Caley and Flo Buthelezi from Inkazimulo Child Care Community Centre whose centre will benefit from the Duzi2Sani project.

Senior tourism officer from Kwa Sani, Andile Zwezwe represented members from Kwa Sani Municipality.

Baijoo said as Msunduzi Municipality they are proud to be part of the Duzi2Sani expedition.

“We can now proudly say that Pietermaritzburg is beginning to be a tourist destination.”

The Duzi2Sani 4x4 Expedition Weekend starts on Friday, 11 September.

Zwezwe said in the process of the tour Underberg will offer various activities.

“Activities will includeindigenous games such as stick fighting, and offer a taste of different African dishes.”
