NEW kid on the block, Nathi Mankayi, will perform his hit song, Nomvula, at the fund- raising Themba Njilo Festival, at the Scottsville YMCA on 17 October.

The Afro-soul singer will share the stage with Ndoda Maphumulo, Nathi and Nkanyiso, Mvuselelo Buthelezi, Nelly ka Dlamini, Dumi Mkokstad, Mthokozisi Zakwe, Hlengiwe Mhlaba, Tzozo, Thina Zungu, Thobekile, Thokozani Langa, Bahubhe and Abazala. The festival, which is in its fourth year, is sponsored by the Themba Njilo Foundation, Echo, Uhologo productions and others.

Themba Njilo Foundation marketing manager Thula Mhlophe said the money raised during the festival will go towards helping impoverished KZN communities.

“Giving is something very close to Themba Njilo’s heart, as he founded the oundation so that there would be a formal structure that deals with assisting needy people. We have various social investment projects including the ‘Listen to my story’ programme on Ukhozi FM where we assist needy people to realise their dreams. “We have a reconciliation programme called ‘Zajika izinto’ for offenders to reconcile with the families of victims they offended. We have bursary schemes for needy students and we also go to schools preaching about social ills. All these programmes rely on money that is generated through the Induduzo Funeral Home. By hosting such a festival we raise additional money for the foundation. We are calling on people to join us on our journey towards changing people’s lives.”

Mhlophe said most of the artists will perform for free since it is a fund-raising event
