SHE is the seed of the 2009 talent show I want To Sing Gospel, created and produced by Thokozani Nkosi.

After drawing viewers’ attention with her Zion rhythm songs she joined the Joyous Celebration gospel group. However, her seven-year journey with Joyous Celebration has come to an end as Sphumelele Mbambo is now going solo.

Speaking to Echo about her journey Mbambo said she is embarking on journey that is part of her dream. She praised Joyous Celebration for grooming and growing her in the music industry.

“I learnt so much, but most importantly, I found the inner self of Sphumelele as an artist. Dreaming alone is not enough - they say action speaks louder than words. This is exactly what I’m doing. I knew that I was born to be a singer and I know I’m here to help people and serve their spiritual needs with music.

“Life has taught me that as a person you can rise from any situation. I have been with Joyous Celebration for seven years and I’m grateful for every experience and lesson I have been able to grasp. One of the important factors in life is to never change, just be yourself and by doing that you are being true to yourself,” she said.

It is common for artists not to succeed when they take the solo route, but Mbambo said music lives in her and therefore she won’t have that challenge.

“It does happen, but if one is aware of his or her expectations in life nothing will stop that. It is a strength and hunger for success that drives a person to the right channels. Trials and tribulations are always there, but the power of the Almighty covers everything. The songs for my album are ready. I cannot say exactly when my album will be out, but I know that people will enjoy it,” said Mbambo.

Mbambo said she loves people and spends a lot of time with friends. She is not shy and believes that nothing beats the power of prayer, and she is the last born child at home
