2015-08-13 06:00

LAND close to Umsilinga Primary School in Ward 30, near Copesville, will be cleared for the purpose of building a crèche, the building of which will be donated by the Mandela Marathon Legacy Programme’s partners, the uMgungundlovu District Municipality, in partnership with the Pietermaritzburg and District Community Chest and the Divine Life Society of South Africa.

Each crèche will facilitate the employment of about six to 10 caregivers and allow for approximately 60 to 80 children to be cared for.

Plans are for the first crèche to be opened by year-end.

Crèche leaders will be trained to NQF level five, crèches will be kitted out will all the necessary teaching equipment and operation costs will be covered until the crèche is able to sustain itself in the long term.

This is the inaugural year for the programme. Construction will begin on 1 August and is set to be completed by 30 November 2015
