ENGLISH Premiership stars such as Southampton’s Sadio Mane, strongly linked with a move to Manchester United in recent weeks, and Newcastle United Papiss Cisse could be jetting out to South Africa this week when Senegal take on Bafana Bafana in the Nelson Mandela Challenge, according to Safa. The game will be played at Orlando Stadium in Soweto, three days after Shakes Mashaba’s national side take on Mauritania in a crucial, must-win Africa Cup of Nations qualifier in Nouakchott.

This year’s Nelson Mandela Challenge will be the 22nd that has been played, and will be the third time that Senegal are the opponents for the annual once-off cup game. Senegal won the first game on penalties in Johannesburg in 2002, while Bafana Bafana managed to get revenge in 2005, winning 3-2 in Port Elizabeth.

Mashaba’s team have eight games remaining this year. Apart from the coming games, they are due to play two friendlies in South America — against Costa Rica and Honduras — plus two Chan qualifiers against Angola, all in October. They finish the year with two World Cup second round qualifiers, also against Angola, in November.

Meanwhile, national U23 and Mamelodi Sundowns starlet Keagan Dollie said playing for the Pretoria giants will improve his chances of getting into the Bafana side in the future.

“Coach Shakes was at the last two games that we [U23s] played against Zimbabwe and he spoke to me,” Dollie is quoted in Kick Off magazine.

“My chances are slightly higher here at Sundowns because we play a good brand of football, so I am genuinely hopeful that the call-ups will keep coming,” said Dollie, who spent last season on loan at Ajax Cape Town.

The Bafana coach has, in the past, been accused — by none other than Ajax coach and former national team goalkeeper Roger de Sa — of ignoring players from the Cape.
