ECONOMIC Freedom Fighter (EFF) leader Julius Malema will be at the Copesville stadium on Sunday.

The party will have its mass rally starting at 9am. This is the first time Malema will be visiting the city, said the party’s provincial commander Khumbulani Nene. Copesville is Ward 29 under the ANC councillor Thandi Ndlovu. Nene said there are various reasons why Malema is attending the northern areas.

“The EFF has been categorised as the political party that has no relationship with minority groups,” said Nene.

Malema will clarify and assure minority groups in the northern areas that they also belong to the party said Nene.

“There have been xenophobic attacks which affected the city not so long ago. He will speak to the people about that. As the EFF we are against xenophobia and xenophobic attacks. He will also speak about the party and what the EFF is about,” said Nene.

Regional organiser Dumisani Shelembe said they are expecting more than 7 000 people on Sunday.

“We have organised buses which will transport people to the stadium.

“We have two buses that will cater for the Impendle people. Two buses will transport people from Mpofana.

“UMshwathi and UMkhambathini have been given one bus each. This proves that we have members of the party in the city. Four buses have been allocated for the inner areas in town and Greater Edendale,” he said.

Shelembe said the EFF already has wards they dominate in the northern areas.

“We have a branch in Ward 31 and Ward 29 belongs to us. There are many challenges the Copesville area is facing. Some of the issues are sanitation, housing and the high rate of unemployment. It shows the ANC government is failing the people in those areas. You cannot say people are free when seven people are living in a one-roomed house,” said Shelembe.

The land issue will be discussed in Malema’s speech and Ethiopian foreign nationals will be part of the rally
