PREMIER Soccer League CEO Brand de Villiers has sent condolences to the family of former Bafana Bafana and Free State Stars striker Richard Henyekane.

The 31-year-old Henyekane died in the early hours of Tuesday morning after being involved in a car accident.

Henyekane, who earned nine international caps, enjoyed his finest season when he won the Absa Premiership top scorer’s award in 2008/09 with 19 goals.

De Villiers said: “The passing of Richard Henyekane comes as a big shock to us in the football family. I cannot imagine the pain his family is going through, considering the fact that four months ago they buried Richard’s younger brother Joseph.

“On behalf of the league and our clubs we offer our heartfelt condolences to his family and his club Free State Stars during this difficult time.”

Henyekane also played for Golden Arrows and Mamelodi Sundowns.

His brother Joseph, who likewise represented Arrows, died at the age of 30 in December.
