I WAS looking at the calendar recently to see how many days there are before the end of the year and can you believe it - there are only five months.

I was also looking back and rechecking how many provincial, national and global events had already passed and was thinking how many days are left before the start of the 2015 Rugby World Cup.

The 2015 RWC is scheduled to be the eighth Rugby World Cup, the quadrennial rugby union world championship. The tournament will be hosted by England from 18 September to 31 October. Twickenham Stadium in London will host the final.

It is also encouraging to see that the Springboks are doing well and are in-form.

Last weekend we outsmarted World XV by hammering them 46-10 in Cape Town.

Springbok head coach Heyneke Meyer appears to be full of smart ideas and his tactics and technical experience are likely to take us far in the forthcoming World Cup.

Last weekend SA led 22-10 at half time as Damian de Allende opened the scoring in the 10th minute, picking up from where he left off in his Super Rugby campaign for the Stormers.

Other first-half scorers were Eben Etzebeth and Willie le Roux for the host while Craig Burden scored what was probably a deserved try for the visitors.

The second half was punctuated by Le Roux scoring two more tries as he completed a hat-trick while De Allende, probably the best player on the night, scored on the full- time hooter.

The Springboks will travel to Brisbane as they get their rugby championship campaign under way next week against the Wallabies before returning home to play against the All Blacks and Argentina.

The Springboks team made its World Cup debut in 1995, when the newly democratic South Africa hosted the tournament. The Springboks defeated the All Blacks 15–12 in the final, which is now remembered as one of the greatest moments in SA’s sporting history, and a watershed moment in the post-apartheid nation-building process.

As a result of the 2007 World Cup tournament the Springboks were promoted to play in the IRB World Rankings, a position they held until July the following year when New Zealand regained the top spot. They were named 2008 World Team of the Year at the Laureus World Sports Awards. SA regained their title as champions 12 years later, when they defeated England 15–6 in the 2007 final.

I think the Springboks are ready and on the right track now. I remember the scenes and highlights of the 1995 World Cup at Ellis Park and hope they will take us down to memory lane.

The 1995 SA Rugby World Cup united our country, let us again stand united behind our SA flag and our Springboks, and wish them good luck
