Scholarship applications open

THE Allan Gray Orbis Foundation invites Grade 6 pupils countrywide to apply for scholarships.

The foundation is looking for keen future entrepreneurs and the scholarship covers full high-school tuition and boarding fees.

In addition, pupils will receive allowances to subsidise travel, stationery, prescribed books, toiletries, school uniforms, civilian clothing, pocket money and extra-mural activities.

Pupils also have access to a development programme to develop an entrepreneurial mindset.

Applicants are urged to start forwarding their applications from 20 July. Pupils must bear in mind that there are requirements from every­ applicant.

Academic requirements are that applicants must achieve 70% or higher in mathematics and English and an average of 70% in both Grade 5 and Grade 6.

The evidence of entrepreneurial potential is required. This means that pupils must be creative and innovative.

Other requirement include achievement excellence where pupils are required to set high academic and non-academic standards.

Applicants are urged to demonstrate their financial­ need and must be a South African citizen­.

Shortlisted applicants will be invited to submit their annual national assessment results to attend an interview, and those who qualify up to this stage will be invited to attend a two-day selection camp which is the final stage of the selection process.

Applications must be completed and submitted by 30 October.

To apply pupils must go to www.allangrayorbis.org to download an application form, or SMS “scholar” and fax number and/or email address to 36777.

This option allows applicants to have an application form faxed or emailed to them.
