LOCAL bands, artists and rising stars in Pietermaritzburg are being offered a new platform, thanks to a new show - The LifeStyle Show - on KZN Capital 104FM.

The show is the brainchild of anchor Bongani Gana, from 033 Lifestyle in Imbali.

“We were sponsoring the station and came up with the idea of hosting a show that would give the audience the same kind of music and vibe we have at 033 Lifestyle.

“So, we approached Jerry [Jones, managing director of the station in Langalibalele Street] and he gave us a chance,” said Gana.

Since its launch at the beginning of June, the show, which is broadcast from 10pm to 1am on Fridays, has hosted Holi M, who sang songs off her album with deep-house tracks, and the band Acoustiq Assasins, who are in Grahamstown for the National Arts Festival.

Co-host Neliswa Mntungwa (aka Novemba Slyk), a former Pietermaritzburg Girls’ High pupil, said: “We want to provide a platform to showcase the music and talent we have in the city, while also celebrating established artists.

“We also use the show to keep people updated on what is happening in and around the city and around KwaZulu-Natal.”

Mntungwa was recruited by Gana after seeing her emcee events in and around the city.

“I never thought about being on the radio, but once I got into it, I found it really enjoyable. It’s so much fun doing the show. I would love it if the show could air every night of the week,” she said.

Gana is thrilled with how things have gone so far. “The show is only about five weeks old but from the feedback we have, it’s been really well received.”

Gana and Mntungwa are joined each week in studio by DJ Spice and Paul Vergo who help spin tunes for the weekend.

“We just want to grow the show in terms of listenership and the people of Pietermaritzburg and surrounds need to tune in to our show on Friday nights so we can help them get the party started.”
