Street tournament in honour of Jabu Ndlovu

2015-06-04 06:00

REMEMBERING struggle stalwart Jabu Ndlovu, the Jabu Ndlovu Foundation will on Saturday host a youth street tournament at the Imbali Unit 1 sports grounds.

Ndlovu, an activist and a unionist, was murdered with her husband Jabulani in their Imbali home in 1989.

The tournament, which involves street soccer and netball, was founded by their daughter Luhle Ndlovu-Mbanjwa last year.

The tournament will be opened by Minister of Social Development Bathabile Dlamini, also a member of the Jabu Ndlovu Foundation.

Speaking to Echo, foundation CEO Ndlovu Mbanjwa said they have decided to commemorate her mother’s life during Youth Month, as she was passionate about nurturing young people.

“The tournament aims to transform history into heritage as it will reflect on heroes and heroines of the struggle. It will also reflect on the character of Jabu Ndlovu, her role in the community, especially the women, the youth and as a shop steward. Not only will we remember her life, we will also commemorate the lives of youth pioneers who are no longer with us, but who played a huge role in fighting for liberation.”

The foundation also caters for women, youth and vulnerable children.

The tournament starts at 9am
