Swimming pools are ‘vital upgrades’

2015-07-02 06:00

ACCORDING to police minister Nathi Nhleko, the R3,8 million swimming pool at President Jacob Zuma’s private residence is considered an important security upgrade.

It is defined as a “fire pool” and water can be drawn from this source to fight fires.

Many residents in our city have swimming pools on their properties and can similarly use their “fire pools” to fight their own fires. This would assist in alleviating some of the workload of our fire department, especially when the dry winter season is upon us and its resources are stretched to the limit.

These swimming pools should therefore not be seen as enhancing the values of properties. They are rather essential upgrades, hence should not be assessed for rates.
