BEING the only model from KZN to take part in SA Week Fashion was a dream come true for a 23-year-old Caluza woman, Coco Msomi.

The event took place at Crown Plaza in Rosebank in Johannesburg last month.

Msomi is a signed model under Boss Model in Durban.

She models as a hobby, but after her experience at SA Fashion Week, she was encouraged to do ramp modelling.

“Ramp modelling displays designer’s clothes,” explained Msomi.

She showed “Clothe Your Soul” clothes by Juke Mngadi, a Durban designer at the event.

“When I heard the news I was over the moon. I have no words to explain how I felt when I was told I would be part of the models for SA Fashion Week. Not only part of the event, but I was the only model from KZN. I have always been someone who does commercial modelling - my face is usually on catalogues, where I wear clothes from Mr Price and others.

“I always believed that my strength is in that line of modelling. I have never done the ramp, but when I did it changed my mind, and from now on I will continue with ramp modelling.”

Beside her cat walk Msomi is an upcoming business woman - the brain behind Coco Msomi Foundation.

“The foundation is to help the needy. There are lots of people who are struggling. They have no one to cry to or ask for help from. I want to be that young woman people look up to and say ‘I want to be like her’. There are other business ventures I’m involved in, but I won’t reveal them for now,” she said.

Msomi has done interviews with e.tv and Selimathunzi.

“That has given me a platform. Some of the people saw me in those interviews and I’m glad to have put Pietermaritzburg on the map. I’m proud that I’m from this city and I will continue working hard for my township.”

She thanked KZN Fashion Models for giving her the opportunity to be on SA Fashion Week.
