LIBERTY Life handed over a digital library to Zibukezulu High School in Imbali.

Liberty Life’s worksite key account manager, Betsy Fraser, said this will benefit the pupils immensely.

“Liberty Life has got a department called Liberty Emerging Consumer Market, and the managing director in charge of that department wanted us to get together with stakeholders to see what we can do in terms of special projects to uplift the community, specifically education in schools.

“Our managing director had talks with Mayor Chris Ndlela about this particular project and told him we wanted to sponsor a school with a digital library.

“Ndlela selected this school to be the beneficiary of the project. We then had the digital library donated and installed at the school. We have done similar projects in Umtata, the Free State and Durban,” said Fraser.

Ndlela said that the community must look after the library.

“This faculty is donated to the school for a legitimate reason, to benefit the pupils of the school. The faculty does not necessarily belong to the school, it belongs to the community because the pupils come from the community.

“The faculty is in the middle of nowhere and has the potential to be vulnerable to forces of darkness. We urge the ward committee and the community to protect this facility. It is the responsibility of everyone to help our education system to develop and reach optimum levels. With this digital library a firm foundation has been laid,” he said.

Ndlela added that pupils need to respect the digital library and go there with the sole purpose of enriching their minds.

“The purpose of being in the library is to retrieve as much information as possible. It is important to appreciate that education, as part of our Constitution, is a right, but a right comes with responsibility. You access education as an investment for a better future. We hope that with the digital library the school will be better than what it was,” said Ndlela.

Zibukezulu High principal Cedric Madlala was grateful for the donation.

“Really, this is the work of the Lord. I hope this gadget will help us as a school, and as a school we are very happy.”
