CREATING and painting masterpieces come naturally to talented artist Lucky Thobisi from Kroonstad. He brings out the beauty of every drawing he creates.

The 35-year-old Thobisi resides in Phomolong, one of the residential areas of the Maokeng Township in Kroonstad.

He possesses amazing artistic craftsmanship – this no one can doubt.

He draws and paints beautifully on a long-lasting memory of loved ones. Thobisi looks at a photo of every person and then effortlessly draws and paints these, much to the delight of his clients.

With no qualification in art, he is self-employed and earns a living by painting and drawing for people.

He works from his studio at his parents’ house.

“I had financial difficulty in studying further after completing my matric in 2001. I started focusing on art, drawing and painting in 1999 before completing matric and I have never looked back,” says Thobisi.

He completed matric at the Kananelo Secondary School in Kroonstad, but art was not one of his subjects.

“This is a special gift from God and I treasure it. I prayed that He would bless me by giving me something special in order to survive in life and He certainly answered by giving me a talent in art.”

Thobisi reveals that the prayer was motivated by his disability of not being able to use his left hand.

He says the disability is as a result of an accident which occurred at home at a very tender age.

He is yet to exhibit his work at big public exhibitions. He targets the 2015 Mangaung African Cultural Festival (Macufe) as the first platform at which he will exhibit his work.

Thobisi designs, draws and paints almost anything.

This includes wedding cards, wedding decorations and T-shirts.

This talented artist loves nature and has projected his special love by drawing eye-catching animals on canvas and paper.

One of Thobisi’s favourite self-drawings is that of the Big Five – elephant, lion, leopard, buffalo and rhino – which is the pride of the African continent.

Thobisi reveals that striving for perfection is his recipe for success.

“It takes up to two weeks to complete a drawing to my satisfaction,” Thobisi says.

Depending on the size of a particular piece, the prices range from R350 to R1 000 per item. Call him on 073-102-5805.
