Campaign awaits entries

SUBMISSIONS for the 2015 Pretty Things for Little Things Campaign has opened from 1 June and entries will close on 31 August.

Customers and senior citizens are urged to put their creative talents to work to make clothes and toys for needy children in support of the Pretty Things for Little Things Campaign, sponsored by Shoprite and Checkers, in conjuction with Age-in-Action.

Pheliswa Lekanyane, the provincial director of Age in Action, explained that entrants were called to make anything practical, durable and safe that a child could wear or play with. “Articles can be made of any resources available and can be entered into four categories namely soft toys, blankets, clothing and other articles made from materials such as wood, tin or wire,” she clarified. According to Age-in-Action, through the creative and generous contributions made by the public, this campaign has since inception 13 years ago, collected and distributed more than 145 000 handmade clothes, toys and blankets to needy children in South Africa.

Senior citizens of 60 years and older who enter their handiwork stand a chance of winning vouchers from Shoprite, Checkers or Checkers Hyper stores nationwide. The partners look foward to bringing much-needed happiness to little ones when these creations are distributed to needy children as early Christmas presents later this year.
