QWAQWA. – Christmas came early to four families from the Phamong Village in Qwaqwa, when Ace Magashule, Premier of the Free State, officially handed over fullyfurnished houses to them through his Operation Hlasela Outreach Campaign on Thursday (15/10).

The handing over of the houses brought to fruition the commitments made during the Imbizo Focus Week in April by the Premier to build new houses for residents after having to demolish their dilapidated houses. The Mphuthi, Tshabalala, Mabizela and Mohlatsane families are now living in fully-furnished houses with a bathroom, kitchen, lounge and four bedrooms.

One of the beneficiaries, Lettie Tshabalala (70), who lives with her ill sister, Anna Mosibi (60), and three grandchildren, said she was happy for what the ANC government had done for her.

“We had been living in a three-roomed mud-house,” Tshabalala said.

Olly Mlamleli, MEC for Cooperative Governance, Human Settlements and Traditional Affairs (CoGHSTA), said they provided furniture.

“We did not use government money to build these houses. Our business people have played a role in making this a reality. We want to thank them,” she concluded
