Councillor answers on building of shacks

DENNIS

PIENAAR, ward councillor, admitted that he had fully pledged his support to the Jacksonville residents who had built shacks on the land belonging to the Sol Plaatje Municipality.

According to Pienaar the needs of the immediate residents of Jacksonville are being ignored, while residents from other wards are given land rights before them.

Pienaar condemned the housing waiting list that the residents had to register on.

“What was said about land was true, that it was for those in the municipal boundaries. But the need in the immediate area or ward was ignored, which is not in the best interest of the residents,” Pienaar said.

He elaborated that the residents’ act was being criminalised by those who were evasive.

“If you deal with the law you should not be biased. There is the same need for housing in Jacksonville, just as in other wards, but they are ignored.

“In 2007 the residents were requested to submit a beneficiary list in isolation and we do not know what happened to it,” he added.

Pienaar dismissed claims that he was in hiding during the meeting.

He said he had been hosting another meeting in Platfontein, one which had been planned long ago.

“It was immoral for the speaker to have the meeting in my absence as it now looks as if I was dodging it,” he said.

“I will present my case if I am found guilty of anything,” he commented on the claims that the speaker, Mangaliso Matika, threatened to deal with him.

Pienaar revealed that he was working with David Molusi, the mayor of the Sol Plaatje Municipality, who had requested the list of beneficiaries and who promised to return to him sometime next week
